Cucurbit Downy Mildew Forecast

Date Issued: 13 June 2006
Disease location(s): Decatur County, GA
Trajectory Start: Bainbridge, GA
Forecaster: TK

Regional weather: Tuesday, June 13 - Southeast U.S. / Eastern Gulf: Tropical Storm Alberto - which formed during the weekend in the Gulf of Mexico - moved onshore during the midday hours today in the FL Big Bend region. Alberto will merge with a stationary front over the Southeast as it continues to move to the northeast. Heavy rains are falling ahead of Alberto's track, and bands of showers and storms are occurring near to and south of the storm. This pattern will continue as Alberto moves through the Carolinas Tuesday night and Wednesday. The bulk of the rainfall will occur in FL and central and eastern sections of GA and the Carolinas. Highs will be in the 70's and 80's. Lows in the 60's and 70's.

Trajectory weather: Cloudy with showers likely today, chance of rain 70%. High in the mid-80's. Rain becoming occasional tonight and Wednesday, low in the upper 60's, high in the low 80's. Chance of rain 80% or better.

Trajectory confidence: Moderate. The stop-and-go / change in direction over GA is reasonable given the predicted path of Alberto.

OUTLOOK: *** Serious Threat ***

Tuesday and Wednesday: Favorable conditions for survivable transport and effective deposition for Tuesday's event. Not as many spores coming from this source, so washout early in the event will greatly limit the potential impact beyond this evening. HIGH Risk for southeast AL, southwest GA, eastern FL panhandle. Moderate Risk for the remainder of southern GA. Wednesday ... the transport event moves slowly ENE. Mixed conditions expected. Moderate Risk for southeast AL, the FL eastern panhandle, and southern GA on Wednesday. Low Risk otherwise.
