FORECAST SUMMARY: Thursday, September 4 :
***** The Weather...... southern / eastern U.S. ***** Two main weather features will be affecting the southern and eastern U.S. for the next 4 to 5 days. The first is a cold front that now lies just west of the Appalachian Mountains and westward into the Plains, which will push south and east today and tonight. Numerous showers and thunderstorms will occur along the front. More scattered shower activity will occur out ahead of it.... along the eastern seaboard, across the Southeast, and westward into TX. Cold front will stall out along the south Atlantic and Guld coasts by Friday morning. Strong high pressure building in behind the front will bring dry conditions to nearly all of the eastern / southern U.S. on Friday. Meanwhile.... the other important weather feature is Tropical Depression #12. Now in the northeastern Gulf, it will move slowly NE / NNE over northern FL during the next two days. Expect widespread cloudiness with plenty of showers and thunderstorms in the northern FL / southern GA areas Thursday and Friday. Some scattered showers will fall in nearby sections of the Southeast and in southern TX, south and/or east of the cold front. Movement of the tropical system beyond Friday is problematic.... current forecasts have it moving slowly northeastward along the south Atlantic coast Saturday through Monday. This path will bring stormy weather to the Southeast (at first) and south-Atlantic coastal regions, while all other areas remain dry under the influence of high pressure.
Southeast...... favorable weather in this region for the next two days. Strongly Moderate to HIGH Risk for FL and southern GA Thursday and Friday. Mixed to mostly favorable weather for disease development is expected through Sunday.
Mid-Atlantic and southern Appalachian Mountains. .... Favorable conditions today ahead of the front, improving to unfavorable weather for Friday and beyond. A few showers may linger right along the coast on Friday before drying sets in. Strongly Moderate to HIGH Risk for central NC, eastern VA, eastern MD, DE, eastern PA, NJ, and the southern Appalachian Mountains on Thursday. Low Risk for these regions on Friday.
Ohio Valley .... unfavorable weather for the duration. Low Risk to cucurbit crops in this region Thursday through Monday.
Texas.... favorable weather Thursday and Friday followed by improving conditions over the weekend. Strongly Moderate to HIGH Risk for southern TX Thursday and Friday. Unfavorable weather expected Saturday through Monday.
