FORECAST SUMMARY: Thursday, October 30 :

Disease Update - 30 October: Many disease sources have either been disked up and/or succumbed to frost.... including the ones in DE, far eastern VA (Painter), southeastern NY (Riverhead), and Tarboro, NC. We are still awaiting word on the status of others. Any information on the current status of downy mildew outbreaks is greatly appreciated. Please contact Cucurbit Forecast Leader Dr. Gerald Holmes (gerald_holmes@ncsu.edu) or your Forecaster Thomas Keever (thomas_keever@ncsu.edu) if you have any news. Thanks!

***** The Weather...... southern / eastern U.S. ***** Dry, warm weather expected in the southern / eastern U.S. for the next week. High pressure at the surface and aloft will cover the southeastern 1/3 of the U.S. for the next week. Expect dry conditions, sunny to partly cloudy skies, and warmer-than-normal temperatures for nearly all locations. One weather feature may impact the FL peninsula in the Sunday / Monday time frame. This is the remnants of TS Nicholas. It is currently a non-tropical low pressure area located a few hundred miles south of Bermuda. It is forecast to move south and southwest over the next several days, and may re-acquire some tropical characteristics. At this time, forecasts indicate some increased cloudiness and a chance of showers in southern FL.... though if this low pressure becomes stronger the likelihood of rain and the expected amounts will be going up. A few isolated showers are possible in southern TX Sunday or Monday. There may be a chance of isolated showers in central sections of the Southeast Tuesday or Wednesday, though this is debateable this far out. Otherwise dry.

***** The Forecasts *****

Southern / Eastern United States.... Survivable transport and deposition highly unlikely for nearly all areas the next two days. Low Risk for all growing areas Thursday and Friday (although I note there are a few isolated showers in the farthest tip of southern FL today). Unfavorable weather will continue for most areas Saturday through Monday, or even Wednesday. The most notable exception may be for southern FL on Sunday and/or Monday with the passage of the above-noted low pressure system. Expect mixed conditions or worse in that region those days. Mixed conditions may occur with the passage / proximity of a cold front in the NJ region by Tuesday / Wednesday. Some isolated showers may occur in deep south TX Saturday or Sunday.
