FORECAST SUMMARY: Tuesday, October 28 :
***** The Weather......
southern / eastern U.S. ***** Wet, disease-favorable weather along
the East Coast. Sunny to partly cloudy and dry across the South.
A stationary front lies from the Atlantic coast into the eastern Gulf
of Mexico. Waves of low pressure are forming along the front and
moving to the north and northeast..... as the whole system pushes to
the east over the next 24 to 48 hours. Widespread showers and
thunderstorms now occurring over the Southeast will move into the
mid-Atlantic and Northeast later today and tonight. Rain continues in
the Northeast on Wednesday. Clouds and morning showers for the
eastern sections of the mid-Atlantic and Southeast followed by
clearing skies. Cool most areas today due to the clouds and rain,
highs in the 50's and 60's, with 70's or 80's FL. Warmer most
locations Wednesday with the expected sunshine. From AL
westward.... sunny to partly cloudy and mostly dry the next two
days. A cold front moving through the nation's midsection will kick
off some rain from the TN Valley into the Midwest today, but will
largely dissipate by Wednesday. Thursday and beyond.... a dry
period for the South and East most days, with temperatures at or
above seasonal norms. A frontal system may bring some precipitation
to the Northeast and mid-Atlantic in the Sunday / Monday time frame.
Eastern United States.... Favorable conditions for disease development today, diminishing in the Southeast and lower mid-Atlantic on Wednesday, continuing in the upper mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and southern FL on Wednesday. Danger to other growing areas appears minimal.... as washout near the source regions is likely in the Southeast and lower mid-Atlantic, and trajectories from other sources move into areas where the growing season is over. HIGH Risk for southern GA, FL, and central NC today. Moderate Risk for southern FL on Wednesday with threat greatly diminished for other sections of the Southeast and lower mid-Atlantic. Strongly Moderate Risk for eastern VA and southern MD each day. Strongly Moderate to HIGH Risk both days for the DelMarVa peninsula, NJ, eastern PA, and southeast NY where any crops are still vulnerable. Low Risk otherwise in the eastern U.S.
Texas..... Low Risk for this region Tuesday and Wednesday. Unfavorable conditions for survivable transport and deposition will be dominant.
23 October: Frost advisories are likely tonight in the upper mid-Atlantic states, with frosts possible in VA and northern NC. The threat of disease development will be greatly lessened, or over, in these regions for the remainder of this growing season.
