***** Disease Update - 19 June ***** Our thanks to Kenny Seabold and David Langston with the University of GA.... who inform us of a serious outbreak of downy mildew in Tift County. 75% of a 1-acre field of summer squash is seriously infected. This source will be incorporated into our analysis and evaluation for the forecasts coming out of southern GA. At this time, we will continue to use the Lark Park site as our trajectory starting point.
***** In the Southeast.... Scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region today Scattered showers again on Friday mainly for eastern and southern sections, while the west begins to dry out. A cold front now in the Ohio Valley will move into the region tonight and Friday. The aforementioned daily showers are expected most areas today, south and east on Friday. A good tropical moisture feed across the FL peninsula will bring some heavy rains to that area over the next two days. Saturday through Monday.... the front will eventually stall out over the Gulf coast / central FL. As high pressure builds in behind the front, northern and central sections will experience a dry period. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected for southern sections. Heavier rain will linger near the front across the FL peninsula, particularly early in the period. Trajectories on Thursday move northeast.... on Friday, east or ENE. HIGH Risk Thursday and Friday for all of the FL peninsula and southern GA. Moderate to perhaps Strongly Moderate Risk Thursday and Friday for the near-coast counties of SC and NC. Low Risk otherwise. Saturday through Monday.... mixed to favorable conditions are expected from southern GA southward through FL. Unfavorable conditions for other areas of the Southeast.
***** In Texas.... partly cloudy skies today with isolated to scattered showers possible in the panhandle.... far west.... and far east, while other areas are dry and hot. A cold front will brush through the eastern sections on Friday. Some scattered showers are possible there. Dry other than a slight chance of afternoon showers in some parts of the west. Dry weather is expected Saturday through Monday for most areas, though scattered afternoon showers or thunderstorms may occur in some eastern sections. Today's trajectory out of deep south TX moves west, Friday's northwest. Dry conditions are forecast for the source region and transport conditions will be mostly unfavorable each day. This source is a Low Threat Thursday and Friday..... and likely for Saturday to Monday as well.
