10 July 2003 Downy Mildew Forecasts

FORECAST SUMMARY: Thursday, July 10 :

***** In the Southeast....Thursday and Friday..... sunny to partly cloudy and hot for the next two days. Scattered showers and thunderstorms possible across the region today. A cold front will move into the region Friday and Friday night, which will increase the chance of showers for most areas. Mixed conditions for survivable transport and deposition are expected both days. Moderate Risk for FL, southern GA, eastern SC, and southeast NC both Thursday and Friday. Low Risk otherwise. Saturday through Monday.... the cold front moving into the Southeast on Friday will reach the coast by Saturday as it weakens and dissipates. Another cold front will approach the region from the northwest by Monday. Sunny to partly cloudy skies through the period, with scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms possible, particularly near the fronts.

***** In Texas.... A cold front will enter the state from the north today, dissipating on Friday. Sunny to partly cloudy and hot state-wide today and Friday. Chance of showers and thunderstorms east and parts of central TX each day, dry elsewhere. Unfavorable conditions will be dominant for transport events out of deep south TX the next two days. Low Risk to cucurbit crops in this region as the trajectories move northwest. Saturday through Monday..... a developing front in the central high plains will slide southward into northern areas of TX on Saturday. Continued sunny to partly cloudy and hot through the period. Chance of showers / thunderstorms north on Saturday, possible east on Sunday, with dry weather elsewhere. The bug in the ointment is Tropical Storm Claudette, which is currently forecast to move into the western Gulf on Saturday, then move slowly west towards the TX coastal bend Sunday and Monday. If this track holds.... expect deteriorating weather in southern TX Sunday and especially Monday. Circulation around the storm would imply little threat to other areas from the south TX source, but local conditions could become quite favorable early next week.
