8 April 2003 Downy Mildew Forecasts

Welcome to the Downy Mildew Forecasts for 2003 !!!

FORECAST SUMMARY: Tuesday, April 8:

*** Disease Update - 8 April *** We will begin the 2003 forecasts with sources in southern Florida. Gene McAvoy informs us that disease is present on summer squash, cantaloupe, and watermelon. It is scattered over 4 counties (Hendry, Collier, Dade, and Palm Beach). Severity is characterized as low to moderate, and control efforts have shown mixed results to this point. We will use the sites at Immokalee and Boynton Beach for out trajectory starting points

*** Cloudy, rainy weather is expected over most of the Southeast Tuesday and Wednesday *** This is due to a slow-moving frontal boundary currently located over interior sections of the Southeast. Areas of low pressure will form and move along the front as it slowly progresses south and east during the next two days. Locations from northern FL northward through the Carolinas will have copious amounts of rain through the period. The southern FL source region will be partly cloudy and dry today, partly cloudy with a chance of showers Wednesday as a cold front moves through central and southern FL. Trajectories will be moving north and northeast. On Tuesday..... Low Risk for cucurbit crops near the source. Moderate Risk for central and northern FL, southeast GA, and southern SC. Low Risk elsewhere. For Wednesday..... Moderate Risk for southern and central FL. Low Risk elsewhere.
