FORECAST SUMMARY: Tuesday, April 22:
*** Disease Update - 15 April *** New reports of Downy Mildew from deep South Texas. Both are in Hidalgo County in fields of Matagua cantaloupe. One outbreak, characterized as moderately serious, lies southwest of the town of Hidalgo along the Rio Grande. Another outbreak, this one quite small, is in a field near Edinburg. No spores were seen and the infection looks to be dead and non-spreading. Various treatments have been applied at each site. The source along the Rio Grande will be added to our forecast rotation. Our thanks to Rick Hernandez for these reports.
***** Active weather is expected in Texas for at least the next two days. ***** Today's focus is on the transport events from the Texas source. Conditions will be favorable for disease development along the forecast pathways. Tuesday's trajectory moves north through western TX, western OK, and Kansas. Wednesday transport event affects several areas in southern TX. Cucurbit crops in many parts of this region will be at Moderate to Strongly Moderate Risk during the next two days. Please refer to the individual forecasts for details.
*** The southern FL source will not threaten other areas on Tuesday or Wednesday. Cucurbit crops around the source region will be at Low or Weakly Moderate Risk.
