15 April 2003 Downy Mildew Forecasts

Welcome to the Downy Mildew Forecasts for 2003 !!!

FORECAST SUMMARY: Tuesday, April 15:

*** Disease Update - 15 April *** New reports of Downy Mildew from deep South Texas. Both are in Hidalgo County in fields of Matagua cantaloupe. One outbreak, characterized as moderately serious, lies southwest of the town of Hidalgo along the Rio Grande. Another outbreak, this one quite small, is in a field near Edinburg. No spores were seen and the infection looks to be dead and non-spreading. Various treatments have been applied at each site. The source along the Rio Grande will be added to our forecast rotation. Our thanks to Rick Hernandez for these reports.

*** Mostly unfavorable weather will hold sway in the southeast U.S. for the next few days. Long-range transport and deposition is possible from deep South Texas today, followed by less favorable weather on Wednesday. *** High pressure controls the weather in the Southeast. The southern FL source region does not threaten other regions. Local conditions will be slightly favorable for disease development. Weakly Moderate Risk for FL's southeast coast on Tuesday. Low Risk elsewhere. Weakly Moderate Risk across all of southern FL on Wednesday. To the west..... airborne spores from the Hidalgo County source are travelling north and northeast ahead of an approaching cold front. Shower activity tonight and Wednesday may bring down some live spores along the transport pathway. Low Risk near the TX source today. Moderate Risk for northern TX, southeast OK, and western and northern AR. Low Risk beyond. This source is a Low Threat on Wednesday, with unfavorable conditions dominating.
