10 April 2003 Downy Mildew Forecasts

Welcome to the Downy Mildew Forecasts for 2003 !!!

FORECAST SUMMARY: Thursday, April 10:

*** Disease Update - 8 April *** We will begin the 2003 forecasts with sources in southern Florida. Gene McAvoy informs us that disease is present on summer squash, cantaloupe, and watermelon. It is scattered over 4 counties (Hendry, Collier, Dade, and Palm Beach). Severity is characterized as low to moderate, and control efforts have shown mixed results to this point. We will use the sites at Immokalee and Boynton Beach for out trajectory starting points

*** Unsettled weather in the Southeast slowly improves during the next two days, with dry conditions region-wide Saturday through Monday *** Clouds and rain will affect most of the Southeast on Thursday... northern sections on Friday... and will finally leave the region by Saturday. With the strong and slow-moving Low well to the north, conditions near the source region in southern FL are partly cloudy and dry today.... and are expected to remain that way into early next week. Trajectories from southern FL do not threaten other growing regions for the next several days. Low Threat from the southern FL source Thursday through Monday, with Low Risk to cucurbit crops there and elsewhere.
