10 September 2002 Downy Mildew Forecasts

 

***** Disease Update - 5 September ***** Two more sources of downy mildew have been reported. Gerald Holmes reports a serious outbreak on winter squash in Lenoir County in eastern NC. This has occurred in test plots at the Cunningham Research Center. He also states that it should be safe to assume that downy mildew is widespread in the NC coastal plains. Users should refer to the Eastern NC forecast for details. Dan Egel informs us that a moderately serious outbreak of DM is occurring on research plots in Knox County, IN near the town of Vincennes. Infections on pumpkins have been present for at least a week. This source is being added to the forecasts.

FORECAST SUMMARY - Tuesday, September 10

*** Clouds and rain due to Tropical Storm Gustav will affect the mid-Atlantic coast on Tuesday. Scattered showers expected near the source in FL. Dry weather for other areas *** Gustav will move away from the NC coast on Wednesday. A cold front will move through the eastern U.S. on Wednesday as well, but little to no rain is expected near any of the known source regions. Otherwise, hot and dry for most areas on Tuesday, with significant cooling behind the front Wednesday and Thursday. On Tuesday.... HIGH RISK for southeast MD, southeast VA, and eastern NC. Moderate Risk for northeast SC. Weakly Moderate Risk for central FL. Low Risk for other areas on Tuesday. On Wednesday.... Moderate Risk for central FL, with Low Risk elsewhere.
