10 October 2002 Downy Mildew Forecasts

 

FORECAST SUMMARY - Thursday, October 10

***** The Weather.... A complex mix of frontal systems .... plus what remains of Tropical Storm Kyle.... will produce unsettled weather for the eastern United States through Sunday. Most locations will be cloudy for the majority of the period. Rain Thursday for the central Gulf Coast states northeastward through the Ohio Valley and the upper mid-Atlantic area. Chance of showers for portions of the Southeast. Chance of rain, showers, and/or drizzle for most of the eastern U.S. on Friday with the greatest likelihood in the mid-Atlantic region. The remnants of Kyle will approach the FL coast today and then turn to the north. This may enhance the rain potential for portions of the Southeast and mid-Atlantic. By Saturday..... a strong cold front will move into the eastern U.S. from areas west. Expect a continued chance of rain and/or showers for most areas east of the MS River. Chance of showers on Sunday for locations east of the mountains as the front drives toward the coast, while drying begins west of the mountains. Markedly cooler temperatures will arrive after the frontal passage. Most areas will experience the coolest temperatures so far this season.

In the Southeast...... On Thursday..... HIGH RISK for southern SC. Strongly Moderate Risk for eastern AL and eastern GA. Moderate Risk for northern GA, southern GA and central FL. On Friday..... HIGH RISK for central and eastern SC, Strongly Moderate Risk for southern GA, Moderate Risk for central FL. Saturday and Sunday... Mixed to favorable conditions are expected with the approach of the cold front. Trajectories should be moving north and northeast.

In the mid-Atlantic region..... disease-favorable weather is expected from Thursday through Sunday. Thursday and Friday..... HIGH RISK for eastern and northern VA, MD, DE, southern NJ, and southeast PA. Strongly Moderate Risk for central and eastern NC on Thursday, HIGH RISK for these same regions on Friday. Favorable weather is expected Saturday and Sunday with trajectories moving north and northeast.

For the southern IN source... Strongly Moderate Risk for southwest IN and south-central IL on Thursday. Low Risk for this area on Friday as rain should stay to the south and east of a slow-moving trajectory. Unfavorable conditions are expected on Saturday, mixed conditions on Sunday.

LOW RISK through the weekend for other areas not mentioned above.
