FORECAST SUMMARY: Thursday, May 23:
*** Disease Update - 23 May *** Our thanks to David Langston.... who informs us of a moderately serious outbreak of downy mildew on summer squash near Camilla, Georgia. This is in Mitchell County in the southwest portion of the state. We are adding this source to the forecasts.
*** Unfavorable conditions dominate the Southeast for the next several days; potential tropical storm system may affect the region this weekend *** Sunny to partly cloudy skies and dry weather are expected through Saturday as high pressure holds sway over the southeast U.S. Low Risk to cucurbit crops Thursday through Saturday. The weather for Sunday and Monday is quite doubtful at this time. A low pressure system is expected to develop somewhere in the northern Caribbean Sea on Saturday. Its future track may carry it over FL.... or it may pass south of FL, organizing itself near the Bahamas. Either way, the storm is expected to later strengthen over the Gulf Stream waters off the Southeast coast as it moves north up the Atlantic Seaboard. Its impact on GA and the Carolinas, if any, would occur early next week. The potential for favorable disease-development weather near the known sources remain very uncertain at this point. Interested parties should keep informed of this evolving situation via the available media as best they can.
