21 March 2002 Downy Mildew Forecasts

 

FORECAST SUMMARY: Thursday, March 21:

*** Epidemic Update - 19 March: Gene McAvoy in Florida sends the following report..... "Scouts in Homestead are reporting heavy infestations of powdery and downy mildew on cucurbits. Downy mildew is widely present in older squash plantings around Immokalee and has been found on watermelon at low levels in the Devil's Garden area."

*** The southern FL source region is a Low Threat to other growing regions from Thursday through Saturday *** The stationary front now in the Southeast U.S. will move through the region during the next 24 hours. Fast on its heels is a strong arctic cold front that will sweep through the eastern U.S. by Friday morning. There is Low Threat to other growing regions Thursday through Saturday. Localized disease development is possible, as there is a chance of isolated to scattered showers on Thursday and Friday. Sunday and Monday.... Partly cloudy skies near the source region with isolated showers Sunday, scattered showers Monday. Trajectories may turn more to the north on these days, presenting a danger to other growing areas. Forecasts will be updated if this occurs.
