FORECAST SUMMARY: Tuesday, March 12:
*** Disease Update 5 March: Downy Mildew near Immokalee, FL *** Gene McAvoy reports that downy mildew is widely present in older squash plantings around Immokalee (low to moderate levels of activity) and has been found on watermelon in the Devil's Garden area (low levels).
*** A low pressure system is moving through the Southeast U.S. Tuesday and Wednesday.... but the bulk of the active weather will remain north of the southern FL source region. *** Tuesday's trajectory from southwest FL moves northeast over east-central FL today and offshore by this evening. Wednesday's trajectory moves nearly due east. Partly cloudy skies are expected for each event. There's a chance of showers along today's trajectory, only a very slight chance of showers for Wednesday's. The threat to other regions is Low for the next two days. However, showers near the source may help create a favorable environment for localized or short-range disease development. Better chance of that happening on Tuesday (Moderate Risk southern and east-central FL) than Wednesday (Low Risk across the source region).
