FORECAST SUMMARY - Thursday, June 27:
*** Disease Update - 20 June *** Downy mildew has been confirmed in Macon County, GA and Florence County, SC. A moderately serious outbreak of downy mildew was confirmed on summer squash in Macon County, GA late today. Little is known about this infection. Lesions are small on the sample submitted, and David Langston states he does not believe the disease has been present for very long. Recent weather has been unfavorable until the past couple of days. The Florence County, SC outbreak is also on summer squash. Small lesions were found on a small fraction of abandoned plants in a field of less than 1 acre. These outbreaks will be included in analysis and evalutation of the forecasts.
*** Showery weather is expected in the Southeast through the weekend *** A very warm and moist air mass will persist in the Southeast for the foreseeable future. Afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms will be likely over the FL peninsula and possible in other areas each day. Cucurbit crops in central and southern FL are at Strongly Moderate to HIGH RISK Thursday through Sunday. There is Moderate Risk for southern GA Thursday through Sunday. Trajectories from the Charleston area will be moving northeast each day. On Thursday, there is Moderate Risk for northeast SC and eastern NC. Friday, there is Moderate Risk for the coastal counties of northeast SC and southeast NC. Saturday and Sunday.... Moderate Risk will continue for counties along and near the coasts of northeast SC and eastern NC. Low Risk elsewhere each day.
