*** Disease Update - 18 June *** Downy mildew has been confirmed in Tift County, GA. A 15-acre field of cantaloupe near the town of Omega is estimated to be 90% infected. Samples were brought to the disease clinic last week. Damage is very extensive. A pumpkin sample from Tift County, brought in on the same day, also was diagnosed with downy mildew. Recent weather has been favorable. This Tift County source will be served by trajectories from the nearby Camilla, GA source. Disease activity here will be incorporated into the factors for the forecasts.
*** Unsettled, disease-favorable weather is expected in the Southeast Tuesday and Wednesday *** A warm, moist air mass lies over most of the region. There is a stationary front along the Atlantic coast southwestward across Florida. Rain is likely near the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, southern GA, and Florida. Partly cloudy skies elsewhere with a chance of showers some sections, mainly on Wednesday. The entirety of the FL peninsula, northwestward into southwest GA, will be at Strongly Moderate to HIGH Risk Tuesday and Wednesday. Other regions will also be significantly affected on at least one day of the next two. Tuesday..... HIGH RISK for southern SC. Strongly Moderate Risk for southeast AL. Moderate Risk for southeast GA. Wednesday.... Strongly Moderate Risk for eastern SC. Moderate Risk for central and southeast GA. Low Risk to cucurbit crops otherwise Tuesday and Wednesday.
