13 August 2002 Downy Mildew Forecasts

***** A note to our users *****

As many of you have noticed, forecasts have not been updated since late July. The necessary information has been collected for these forecasts. However, due to time required to attend to other duties, I have been unable to complete and post the forecasts. I offer my apologies for this lapse during an important period of the cucurbit growing season. The missing forecasts will be completed and posted within the next 4 to 5 days. Every effort will be made to insure that this does not happen again. We appreciate everyone's interest and contributions to making our Forecast System work !

FORECAST SUMMARY - Tuesday, August 13:

*** Showery weather in GA and FL Tuesday and Wednesday will promote some disease development *** Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected in the Southeast for the next two days. Best chance of rainfall will be from central FL northward through southern GA, near two of the known source areas. Airborne spores from these regions won't travel for long distances before being washed out of the atmosphere. Disease development conditions will be favorable on Tuesday, mixed on Wednesday. The exception to the shower activity is found in much of NC, where mostly dry conditions will prevail the next two days. Unfavorable conditions for long-range transport and near-source disease development will be found near the source in eastern NC. Trajectories are moving to the north and northeast from all sources each day. Strongly Moderate Risk on Tuesday for central and northern FL, southern GA, and southeast AL. On Wednesday, Moderate Risk for central and northern FL, southern and central GA, and western SC. Low Risk for other growing areas Tuesday and Wednesday.
