FORECAST SUMMARY: Thursday, April 18:

*** Disease Update - 18 April *** our thanks to Kenneth Pernezny and Robert McMillan, Jr. for providing additional details about the southern FL outbreaks.... Downy mildew in summer and winter squash has been observed near the Ft. Pierce area, in UF research plots. Reports have also come in from scouts in neighboring areas of downy mildew on commercial plantings of yellow and zucchini squash. A serious source of downy mildew has been reported in the Homestead area. Fields of summer squash, cucumber, and cantaloupe have experienced disease activity from February through April.

*** A summer-like pattern persists over the Southeast through the weekend *** Strong high pressure continues to dominate the weather. Due to easterly winds over the source region, trajectories from southern FL will go westward for at least the next 4 days. The threat to other growing regions is Low through the weekend. Scattered showers, possible each day, may provide the moisture needed for localized disease development. Moderate Risk for southern FL Thursday through Sunday. Low Risk elsewhere. It may be some time next week before the weather situation changes significantly.
