16 April 2002 Downy Mildew Forecasts

 

FORECAST SUMMARY: Tuesday, April 16:

*** Disease Update - 16 April *** from Gene McAvoy in Florida..... "Downy mildew is widely present in older squash plantings around Immokalee and is now being seen more widely on cantaloupe and watermelon around southwest Florida. Scouts in Homestead are reporting heavy infestations of powdery and downy mildew on cucurbits."

*** Summer-like weather will dominate the Southeast for the next several days *** Strong high pressure centered off the coast will make it more like June or July than mid-April. Hot with highs in the 80's and 90's. Skies will be fair to partly cloudy, with scattered afternoon showers in some areas. Trajectories from the southern FL source region move west Tuesday and Wednesday. Conditions at the source will be of mixed favorability for disease development. Moderate Risk for southern FL Tuesday and Wednesday. Low Risk elsewhere.
