FORECAST SUMMARY : Tuesday, September 18:
*** Forecasts are abbreviated today (no individual source forecasts). A weather synopsis and risk assessments are given below, along with trajectories for the various source areas.
*** Active weather is occurring in the mid-Mississippi River Valley today, spreading eastward across the Ohio Valley on Wednesday *** A weak front lies across the Northeast but very little precipitation is expected with it. High pressure will otherwise control the weather along the east coast states for the next two days with no rain expected. To the west of the mountains.... a low pressure area and associated cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms to the MS Valley today with a chance of showers in the Ohio Valley. Rain is likely in the Ohio Valley on Wednesday.
*** Favorable conditions are expected west of the Appalachian Mountains Tuesday and Wednesday *** Trajectories from the sources in this region are moving north today, northeast on Wednesday. Conditions for survivable transport and deposition are generally mixed today, more favorable toward the MS River and less favorable toward the Appalachian Mountains. Moderate Risk today for a rather broad area bordered by northeast AR eastward to eastern TN...... extending north of that line through KY, IL, IN, and western OH. On Wednesday.... rain is likely over the entire Ohio Valley. The grand majority of any deposition should occur near the known sources. HIGH RISK for these areas, with Low Risk elsewhere in the region. East of the mountains..... unfavorable weather will dominate Tuesday and Wednesday. Low Risk to cucurbit crops in these states.
