FORECAST SUMMARY: Tuesday, May 8:
*** Disease Update, 3 May: Our thanks to Ken Pernezny, with the University of Florida Everglades Research and Education Center. He informs us that downy mildew has been discovered in a 1.5 acre field of cucumber, located near Boynton Beach, FL, in Palm Beach County (due east of Immokalee). This is a serious outbreak, with 80% of the field infected. With downy mildew already in the Immokalee area..... and now this new report from over on the east coast...... it appears likely that other areas of disease activity also exist in southern FL. Immokalee will continue to represent the disease scattered in this area. We will incorporate our knowledge of the activity near Boynton Beach into our analyses and risk assessments.
*** Localized disease development is possible today and/or Wednesday. No long-range threat is expected. *** The weather is mostly unfavorable for disease development, and trajectories move into the Gulf of Mexico each day. However, an isolated shower over the source region today or Wednesday could generate some disease activity. Localized disease development possible, otherwise, Low Risk to cucurbit crops Tuesday and Wednesday.
