19 July 2001 Downy Mildew Forecasts

 

FORECAST SUMMARY: Thursday, July 19:

*** Disease Update - July 19: Tom Isakeit in Texas reports that downy mildew has greatly diminished in the El Campo area due to unfavorable conditions for disease development. We are dropping this site from the forecasts. We do have a new source to report: Steve Bost informs us that downy mildew has been observed on cucumber, summer squash, and winter squash at the UT agricultural campus in Knoxville, TN. The garden area, though small, is expericencing heavy sporulation from the infection present. This site joins the forecasts today.

*** Cold front dropping southward through the eastern U.S. today and Friday *** The Ohio-Valley section of the front will turn stationary in a NW-SE orientation as Thursday goes into Friday, then begin dissipating. The eastern section of the front will move deep into the Southeast by Saturday, turning stationary also. Increased cloudiness with showers and thunderstorms likely near the front, particularly today and Friday. Sunny to partly cloudy elsewhere with dry weather or some scattered afternoon showers. In the Southeast..... Low Risk near the Charleston source area today. Strongly Moderate Risk for southern SC and southeast GA on Friday. Moderate Risk for southern SC and southern GA Saturday and Sunday. In the Tennessee Valley.... Strongly Moderate Risk today for eastern TN, extreme southwest VA, and southeast KY. Low Risk elsewhere. On Friday, Strongly Moderate Risk for eastern TN, north-central TN, and southern KY as airborne spores move northwest. Low Risk for this region Saturday and Sunday, with unfavorable weather expected.
