FORECAST SUMMARY: Tuesday, July 10:
*** Your forecaster will be on leave from Wednesday through Friday. In addition, the Forecast Center staff will be at a conference early next week. New forecasts may not be produced until Thursday, July 19, but we will make every effort to update the forecasts earlier.
*** Disease Update - July 10: Our thanks to Tony Keinath.... who informs us that downy mildew is present in cantaloupe research plots at the Coastal R&E Center in Charleston, SC. These plants are being disced up. However, the presence of disease here indicates that downy mildew is likely present in other nearby areas. We are adding this site as a source.
*** Unfavorable weather for disease development is expected from Tuesday through Sunday in Texas and the Southeast *** The Texas region will remain parched for the foreseeable future, accompanied by stifling heat. Hot, mostly dry weather will dominate in the Southeast also, though scattered showers are possible later this week as a cold front drops into the region. Low Risk to cucurbit crops in southeast TX and the central coastal region of SC from Tuesday through Sunday.
