*** Disease Update - August 9: Several new developments have occurred during the past several weeks. As we have had no additional reports from the Charleston area, this site is being dropped from the forecasts. New reports have come in from eastern KY (low levels of disease activity on cantaloupe and squash), southwest GA (disease occurring on cantaloupe in Worth County), and within the past few days near Goldsboro, NC (a weak outbreak). These new sites are being added for today's forecasts.
*** A cold front will push south and east from the Midwest/Great Lakes over the next several days. *** This front will stall out somewhere over the mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley regions this weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are likely near the front. Partly cloudy skies with scattered, mainly afternoon/evening thunderstorms are expected south of the front. On Thursday... there is Moderate Risk for northeast TN, southwest and western VA, northeast KY, southeast OH, western and northern WV, southwest PA, and southern GA. There is Weakly Moderate Risk for eastern NC and southeast VA. On Friday.... there is Strongly Moderate Risk for eastern TN, western NC, and eastern KY. There is Moderate Risk for southern GA, Weakly Moderate Risk for eastern NC and southeast VA. Over the weekend..... conditions will be mixed for survivable transport and deposition near the known source regions. Long-range transport is not a significant threat, but localized to short-range disease development is possible.
