*** Disease Update - August 16: Our thanks to Steve Bost, who informs us of a new source of downy mildew in Montgomery County, TN. This infection, of questionable severity, has affected a field of pumpkin. Downy mildew has also been discovered in Harnett County, NC. The recently-added Goldsboro site will represent transport pathways from this new outbreak.
*** A cold front will move into the eastern U.S. Thursday and Friday *** The effects of the front will be felt in the Ohio Valley region today, then move eastward as time progresses. On Thursday.... Moderate Risk for north-central and northeast TN.... west-central, northern, and eastern KY... southern and eastern OH.... extreme southwest VA, and southwest WV. Low Risk for other areas. On Friday..... there is Moderate Risk for cucurbit crops in northeast TN, northwest NC, and southern and east-central GA. Low Risk elsewhere. Saturday and Sunday.... the weakening front will stall along the eastern Seaboard. Mixed conditions for disease development will prevail near the sources in eastern TN, NC, and southern GA. In the Ohio Valley, conditions will be unfavorable on Saturday, unfavorable south to mixed north on Sunday.
