14 August 2001 Downy Mildew Forecasts

FORECAST SUMMARY: Tuesday, August 14:

*** Your Forecaster was forced to take emergency leave since our last forecasts of July 19. We apologize for the abrupt and unannounced departure from our forecast schedule. Forecasts should be available on a regular basis for the remainder of the season. ***

*** Disease Update - August 9: Several new developments have occurred during the past several weeks. As we have had no additional reports from the Charleston area, this site is being dropped from the forecasts. New reports have come in from eastern KY (low levels of disease activity on cantaloupe and squash), southwest GA (disease occurring on cantaloupe in Worth County), and within the past few days near Goldsboro, NC (a weak outbreak). These new sites are being added for today's forecasts.

*** A cold front now lies from the mid-Atlantic coast through the Southeast *** Generally favorable conditions for disease development will be found along and to the south of this front as it pushes further south and east. Other areas of the eastern U.S. will be sunny to partly cloudy and dry. Another front will approach the eastern U.S. later this week, but its effects will be minimal until Thursday. On Tuesday.... Strongly Moderate Risk for southern GA; Moderate Risk for southeast NC. Low Risk elsewhere. On Wednesday... Low Risk for growing areas in and around the known sources.
