FORECAST DISCUSSION: Tuesday, September 12:
*** Long-range transport and deposition a possibility in the Northeast *** A cold front stretches from the Great Lakes through the southern Plains. Airborne spores from the source in southeast MD will be travelling northeast today. Sky conditions are mixed. Showers and thunderstorms ahead of the front may deposit some live spores. Moderate Risk today for NJ, eastern PA, southern NY, western CT, western and northern MA, southern sections of VT and NH, and southern ME. On Wednesday, Moderate Risk for southeast MD and southern DE as the trajectory moves quickly offshore. The other potential problem area may be near the GA/SC/NC mountains. Low Risk there today, but conditions will be somewhat favorable on Wednesday. Moderate Risk Wednesday for southwest NC, northeast GA, and much of western SC. The weather near the other source regions will be mostly unfavorable for disease development, with Low Risk to growers. Showers this morning in OK may provide some moisture for localized development, however.
