15 August 2000 Downy Mildew Forecasts

FORECAST DISCUSSION: Tuesday, August 15:

*** 12 August Disease Update *** Allan Thorton, Extension Agent in Sampson County, NC, informs us that downy mildew has been discovered near the town of Newton Grove. This serious outbreak is occurring on pumpkins. Recent weather has not been favorable; however, conditions this weekend are mixed and some showers are possible. Drier weather is expected for Monday and Tuesday. This source will be added to the forecasts on Tuesday. Bill Nesmith in Kentucky also informs us that no cucurbit downy mildew has been discovered in that state (as of late last week).

*** Unfavorable weather is expected near the source regions Tuesday and Wednesday *** Long-range transport is unlikely both days. Other than a small chance of afternoon showers near the NC mountains and in parts of central FL, dry weather is anticipated near the known sources. Low Risk to growers Tuesday and Wednesday.
