3 May 1999 Blue Mold Forecasts

FORECAST DISCUSSION: Monday, May 3: *** Conditions are unfavorable for disease development Monday and Tuesday in the Southeast U.S. *** Dry weather and sunny to partly cloudy skies will dominate the next two days. Growers in the Southeast and elsewhere are at Low Risk of disease development. However, a large weather system is approaching the eastern U.S. and will affect the growing regions on Wednesday and Thursday. Conditions will be more favorable and spores are likely to be travelling northward from the southern GA and northern FL region. Variable, unsettled weather could continue through the weekend. Those concerned are encouraged to monitor the forecasts closely at mid-week.

The other sources in Cuba, Mexico, and southern Texas are not expected to threaten any production areas today or Tuesday. Localized disease development also appears unlikely. TK
