FORECAST DISCUSSION: Monday, March 22: *** First, a recap of the weekend. *** The weather events of the past several days went much as expected. Disease sources in the southeast U.S. were Low Threats Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, trajectories moved due east and then off the coast. Some sporulation and transport were possible with Moderate Risk to growers in southern Georgia and northern Florida.
*** We have another report of blue mold from southern Georgia *** Paul Bertrand reports that blue mold has been discovered in a greenhouse in Lowndes County, Georgia, near Valdosta. There are now five sites in four different counties in southern Georgia. The Statenville site, which is centrally located among the disease sources in that part of the southern Georgia/northern Florida area, will be used to represent any spore movement from this new site near Valdosta.
*** There are no significant threats early this week. *** Fair, dry weather plus some cold overnight temperatures should dampen disease activity for the next two days. Sources in the southeast U.S., Cuba, and western Mexico are Low Threats. Conditions in southern Texas and along the east coast of Mexico are more favorable, and some localized disease development may occur in those areas today and Tuesday. TK
