28 June 1999 Blue Mold Forecasts

 

FORECAST DISCUSSION: Monday, June 28: *** Blue Mold Update *** Tom Melton reports that blue mold has now been discovered in Pender and Robeson Counties in southeast NC. Heavy sporulation is present in some areas. There are now six counties in that region with reported blue mold. Steve Bost in Tennesssee indicates there are three more confirmed cases of blue mold. One is an active field source in Montgomery County. Another is an active greenhouse source discovered last week in adjoining Robertson County. The third is a field source resulting from transplants taken from the Robertson County greenhouse. The greenhouse plants have since been destroyed.

*** Favorable weather will continue over most areas Monday and Tuesday *** In the Southeast, winds are carrying the spores from south to north. In the mountains and Ohio Valley, winds are flowing more west to east. Many areas are at elevated risk. Here is the rundown: On Monday.... there is HIGH RISK for extreme southwest VA, western WV, eastern KY, west-central KY, and north-central TN. There is Strongly Moderate Risk for eastern NC and the southern GA / northern FL region. There is Moderate Risk for northeast SC, the piedmont of NC, south-central VA, the central and northern mountains of NC, and southern New England. On Tuesday.... there is HIGH RISK for the central and northern mountains of NC, extreme NE TN, and central TN. There is Strongly Moderate Risk for eastern and north-central NC; south-central, southwest, and extreme southwest VA; southern WV, southeast KY, and southern GA/northern FL. There is Moderate Risk for growers in northeast SC, the piedmont of NC, and southeast TN. TK
