FORECAST DISCUSSION: Friday, July 30: *** Disease Update - First Report of blue mold from Ohio *** Blue mold has been confirmed on a sample of burley tobacco from Brown County, Ohio. All lesions were over 10 days old and there was no new sporulation occurring.
*** The weather will be unfavorable for blue mold development this weekend. *** No long-range transport is expected from any source for the next few days as sunny skies should dominate. Growers in the southern Appalachian mountains are at Moderate Risk on Friday, Low Risk Saturday and Sunday. Growers in southern New England may also be at Moderate Risk Friday or Sunday if some showers occur. Growers in other areas will generally face Low Risk this weekend. However.... localized disease development remains a possibility for those growers near a source area that receives some rain. TK
