21 July 1999 Blue Mold Forecasts

 

FORECAST DISCUSSION: Wednesday, July 21: *** Disease Update *** Frank Bolick in Boone, NC has reported blue mold in Watauga County in the northern NC mountains. This is a very light source.

*** No long-range transport and deposition events are expected Wednesday or Thursday *** As has been the case recently, long-range transport and deposition is unlikely. The potential for localized disease development on Wednesday and Thursday centers around the areas with the better chances of showers and thunderstorms....the eastern Carolinas and the southern Appalachian Mountains both days.... the eastern Ohio Valley on Wednesday....and the upper mid-Atlantic and southern New England on Thursday.

There is Moderate Risk for eastern NC and eastern SC on Wednesday and Thursday. Growers in western NC, northeast TN, and extreme southwest VA are also at Moderate Risk Wednesday and Thursday. In the Ohio Valley.... there is Moderate Risk on Wednesday for northern and eastern KY, southern OH, and western WV. There is Weakly Moderate Risk for south-central KY and north-central TN. Risk levels drop on Thursday with drying weather, but growers in central TN will be at Weakly Moderate Risk. In the upper mid-Atlantic and New England, showers and thunderstorms are moving into the region tonight and Thursday. There is Weakly Moderate Risk on Wednesday for southern New England and southeast PA. Risk levels increase on Thursday. There is Strongly Moderate Risk for southern MD, southeast PA, and southern New England. Other growers not specifically mentioned will be at Low Risk. TK
