FORECAST DISCUSSION: Wednesday, March 19, 1997 - Development of blue mold on the wild tobacoo in S Texas and near the production areas of E Mexico continues to be a problem. Localized disease development is possible in those regions. There is also the possibility of transport of spores from the S Texas area southward toward the E Mexico growing areas, though the threat is slight. Elsewhere is Mexico, conditions are generally unfavorable for blue mold and no long-range transport is expected. For the Cuban source, today's situation is non-threatening, but tomorrow's trajectories will bear watching. There is the possibility of spore transport northward towards Florida under favorable conditions for survival and effective deposition. Additional forecasts will be produced tomorrow if necessary. TK
THREATENING SOURCES: None
HIGH RISK AREAS: None
***** NOTE: These forecasts/outlooks only apply to disease development from airborne transport of spores!!! We do not have the capability to ascertain blue mold development by other means, such as transplanting of infected seedlings, nor will we attempt to do so. Please consult the Extension Service personnel in your area if you have concerns about these matters! *****
