FORECAST DISCUSSION: Monday, June 9, 1997 - *** Conditions in the Ohio Valley are still favorable for blue mold. *** Sunday's spore release from Columbia, TN placed growers in central TN and the eastern 2/3 of KY at High Risk of disease development. This source remains a Serious Threat today and Tuesday. Spore releases both days will create HIGH RISK situations for growers in central and western TN and western KY. There is also a Strongly Moderate Risk for growers in S Illinois and E Missouri from Monday's spore release.
The Southern Georgia sources are also Serious Threats Monday and Tuesday. The range of potential disease development from these sources should be fairly limited, however. HIGH RISK areas both days include southern SC, southern GA, northern FL, and southern AL.
The sources in eastern NC and southeast Pennsylvania are low threats the next two days. Conditions surrounding the spore releases at Lizzie and Lancaster are mostly unfavorable for disease development. Spores are either headed out to sea or there's very little chance of deposition. In southern Texas, some localized disease development is possible, but no long-range threat should emerge from this region during the next two days. TK
SERIOUS SOURCE THREATS: Columbia, TN; Southern GA sources
Central & Western TN, Western KY, S SC, S GA, N FL, S AL
***** NOTE: These forecasts/outlooks only apply to disease development from airborne transport of spores!!! We do not have the capability to ascertain blue mold development by other means, such as transplanting of infected seedlings, nor will we attempt to do so.
