FORECAST DISCUSSION: Monday, June 23, 1997 - *** The weather in the eastern U.S. is mostly unfavorable for disease development early this week. *** All the source areas are low threats Monday and Tuesday. There is a slight risk of localized disease development today in SE North Carolina and NE South Carolina where some showers have popped up. On Tuesday, there is a slight risk of localized development in the southern Appalachian Mountains, due to the chance of an isolated afternoon shower. However, there is little potential for any long-range disease development, and the grand majority of growers near the source areas or along any of the forecast pathways are at Low Risk today and Tuesday.
We have a couple of reports of blue mold that have come in. One is from Morgan County in east-central Tennessee, and the other is from Menifee County in east-central Kentucky. These sources won't be added to the forecast rotation, but growers should be alert, since their presence increases the risk of blue mold development in those areas. TK
SERIOUS SOURCE THREATS: NONE
HIGH RISK GROWING AREAS: NONE
***** NOTE: These forecasts/outlooks only apply to disease development from airborne transport of spores!!! We do not have the capability to ascertain blue mold development by other means, such as transplanting of infected seedlings, nor will we attempt to do so. Please consult the Extension Service personnel in your area if you have concerns about these matters! *****
