FORECAST DISCUSSION: Wednesday, April 9, 1997 - The situation today is similar to others we have seen in recent weeks. A stationary front lies between Cuba and Florida and extends westward into northern Mexico. Winds circulating around a high pressure area in the central U.S. will push spores from Cuba westward and bring moist east and southeast flows into the Gulf coast areas of Texas and E Mexcio. Other areas of Mexico will generally be fair to partly cloudy and warm. No dangerous long-range transport is expected from any source for the next two days, but localized disease development is possible on the wild tobacco in S Texas/NE Mexico and also for the coastal sources of E Mexico. The western Cuba growing areas may also experience some localized blue mold development.
SERIOUS THREATS: None
HIGH RISK AREAS: None
***** NOTE: These forecasts/outlooks only apply to disease development from airborne transport of spores!!! We do not have the capability to ascertain blue mold development by other means, such as transplanting of infected seedlings, nor will we attempt to do so. Please consult the Extension Service personnel in your area if you have concerns about these matters! *****
