FORECAST DISCUSSION: Friday, April 4, 1997 - The favorable weather for blue mold in the southern Texas/NE Mexico region will end this weekend as the weather systems responsible begin to shift to the east. Conditions are favorable today for localized development, and that area is designated a high-risk zone for today. Among the Mexican sources, only Tepic may have conditions favorable for blue mold development. Any disease development will be local or short-range, however, and conditions there will be less favorable for development tomorrow and Sunday. Elsewhere in Mexico, the weather isn't very favorable for disease development, locally or otherwise. The Cuban source presents no danger today, but as the frontal system moves eastward, conditions may become more favorable for possible long-range transport into Florida. The situation will be monitored closely, and additional forecasts will be produced this weekend if necessary. The potential will likely be greatest on Sunday. TK
SERIOUS THREATS: Southern Texas sources, Locally
HIGH RISK AREAS: S Texas, NE Mexico
***** NOTE: These forecasts/outlooks only apply to disease development from airborne transport of spores!!! We do not have the capability to ascertain blue mold development by other means, such as transplanting of infected seedlings, nor will we attempt to do so. Please consult the Extension Service personnel in your area if you have concerns about these matters! *****
