FORECAST DISCUSSION: Monday, April 14, 1997 - The frontal system that moved through the southern and eastern U.S. during the weekend is moving slowly through Florida, turning stationary on its western end across the Gulf and into NE Mexico. Clouds and possible showers likely over most of Florida today and tomorrow. Variably cloudy with a chance of showers in Cuba. Cloudy and cool in S Texas/NE Mexico, chance of mainly light rain most portions, highs in the 60's and 70's. Gulf coast growing areas of Mexico can expect mostly cloudy conditions with a chance of rain or showers and warm temps. Western and southern growing areas will be generally partly cloudy and warm today and Tuesday.
No long-range transport and deposition is anticipated from any of the source regions today. However, weather conditions in Cuba, extreme S Texas and NE Mexico, and along Mexico's Gulf coast are favorable for localized disease development. Growers in central Florida are at SLIGHT risk of blue mold development from spores released in Cuba on Sunday and today. Tuesday's trajectories out of the Cuban source region will be examined in the morning. They do not appear to be threatening at the moment, but the situation in this area will be watched closely, as the weather is favorable for blue mold development. Conditions near the W and S Mexico sources are not very favorable for disease development the next two days. TK
SERIOUS THREATS: None
HIGH RISK AREAS: None
***** NOTE: These forecasts/outlooks only apply to disease development from airborne transport of spores!!! We do not have the capability to ascertain blue mold development by other means, such as transplanting of infected seedlings, nor will we attempt to do so. Please consult the Extension Service personnel in your area if you have concerns about these matters! *****
