17 May 1996 Blue Mold Forecasts

FORECAST DISCUSSION: Friday, May 17 - Conditions Wednesday and Thursday were such that it's very doubtful that any spores released Wednesday from N FL were successfully deposited near production areas. Strong high pressure now controls the weather all over the South, and the sunny, hot conditions should help weaken the disease everywhere. Wind flows around the High also serve to guide spores away from production regions; the S TX trajectories go more northerly before turning east, and the pathways out of Cuba head pretty much due west. Daytime temperatures at the source sites will be in the mid-80's and above for extended periods through the weekend. Extended forecasts into next week indicate the summer-like weather will continue, with well-above normal temperatures and little chance of rain. TK

HIGH-RISK SOURCES: None
