Blue Mold Forecast

Forecast Summary: Monday, March 20

The NAPDFC has received reports of extensive blue mold in the Nayarit region of western Mexico.

A note to extension and disease management agents in southeast Texas: Over the past few weeks, trajectories from the Tepic area have trended towards southeast Texas. While the chance of living spores reaching the area are quite low, there have been cases in the past where this type of situation has led to the spread of blue mold on wild tobacco in the Texas area. The NAPDFC would appreciate any scouting efforts for blue mold in the Texas area so that any disease doesn't go unobserved and unreported.

Weather: There will be mostly clear skies for the Nayarit area through midweek with some high to midlevel clouds passing overhead. The highs will be in the mid to upper 80s with lows overnight near 50.

The Forecast: Sky conditions will be unfavorable for spore survival for the trajectories through midweek out of Tepic, Mexico. Low Risk to production areas from the Tepic source through Wednesday.
