19 March 2004 Blue Mold Forecasts

FORECAST SUMMARY: Friday, March 19: *** Welcome to the 2004 Blue Mold Forecasts !!! *** Our thanks to Dave Lempke in San Marcos, TX.... who informs us that he has not yet observed any wild tobacco growing in his area. This (of course) implies that there is currently no disease activity in his area, either. We hope to have more information about the growth of wild tobacco and any associated disease activity from this region soon.

Friday through Sunday: Yet another trajectory out of southern Texas moves east toward the TN and OH Valleys on Friday. As stated above, however, our initial information indicates a dearth of wild tobacco, and likely little to no disease activity at this time. Of the four areas currently monitored, this is the only trajectory that approaches other growing regions for the upcoming weekend. Thus all sources are Low Threats Friday through Sunday, with Low Risk to the productions areas of the U.S. TK

Areas at Strongly Moderate or HIGH Risk during the past week: None

***** NOTE: These forecasts/outlooks only apply to disease development from airborne transport of spores!!! We do not have the capability to ascertain blue mold development by other means, such as transplanting of infected seedlings, nor will we attempt to do so.
