7 April 2004 Blue Mold Forecasts

FORECAST SUMMARY: Wednesday, April 7: No reports of any blue mold in the U.S. as of yet. We do have our first international report, out of Tunisia. This outbreak.... and any others to follow this year... can be found on our International Disease Report Page. These reports come to us courtesy of CORESTA.

Wednesday and Thursday: All sources are Low Threats, with Low Risk to the productions areas of the U.S. A trajectory from the southern TX region moves east towards FL / GA today, but the event should pose little danger to growers. We have no indication that any wild tobacco is growing in that region and thus no indication of any blue mold. Even if there were, skies along the forecast pathway are very sunny this afternoon, which would kill any airborne spores (should they exist). All other transport events in this forecast do not endanger other growing areas. TK

Areas at Strongly Moderate or HIGH Risk during the past week: None

***** NOTE: These forecasts/outlooks only apply to disease development from airborne transport of spores!!! We do not have the capability to ascertain blue mold development by other means, such as transplanting of infected seedlings, nor will we attempt to do so.
