Site: Lower Saxony, northwest Germany. Outbreak of blue mould in the field. The blue mould originated on transplant seedlings supplied by a farmer in southwestern Germany where blue mould was first detected on 2 June (see Warning No. 04). Analysis results from the University of Hohenheim indicate that this blue mould strain is resistant to Metalaxyl. At present, the original contaimination source is unclear (i.e. hibernation of sporangiospores in Germany? Or wind distribution from other countries?). Information received from Dr. N. Site: St. Florian, upper Austria. Second outbreak of blue mould in Austria. 1,4 ha of Burley tobacco affected at early flowering stage (6-8 of the lower leaves partly harvested). Two weeks ago, field was treated with Ridomil Gold MZ @P (Metalaxyl M [40 g.a.i.] + Mancozeb [640 g.a.i.] - 25%). Affected plants removed and destroyed and the field immediately treated with Ortiva (Azoxystrobin [250 g.a.i.] - 0.1%) and Dithance Neo Tec (Mancozeb [750 g.a.i.] - 0.05%).
