6 June 2003 Blue Mold Forecasts


FORECAST SUMMARY:
Friday, June 6:

***** Disease Update - 6 June ***** Blue mold continues to spread in southern GA. Disease is now present in 10 counties. Many outbreaks have occurred in the last 10 days, including a number of severe cases, during the recent favorable weather. The counties are: Ben Hill, Bacon, Berrien, Candler, Coffee, Colquitt, Irwin, Tattnall, Treutlen, and Ware.

***** Disease Update - 4 June ***** There are no confirmed reports of blue mold from the NC mountains. As of 3 PM Wednesday afternoon, the available information indicates that no blue mold has yet been discovered in NC, and the Forecast Center has not received any official reports. We will post any report promptly whenever we receive it. Growers across the mid-Atlantic region, from the mountains to the coast, are strongly encouraged to scout their plants for signs of disease. Unsettled weather is expected in the eastern U.S. during the middle and latter parts of this week.

***** Unsettled weather will plague the Southeast this weekend *** An active frontal system will affect the region for the next 3 days. Clouds and showers are already moving into the region from the southwest at midday Friday. Rainy weather will overspread most of the Southeast tonight and Saturday. Eastern and southern areas will have more showery weather on Sunday while some western areas have a dry day. The threat from the various transport events will be concentrated near the source areas, due to the high likelihood of rain. HIGH Risk Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for northern FL and southern GA. Elsewhere...... Moderate Risk Friday for north-central TN, and south-central and southeast KY. Low Risk otherwise. Moderate Risk Saturday for central and eastern sections of NC and SC. HIGH Risk Saturday for the southern Appalachian Mountains. Low Risk otherwise. On Sunday, Moderate Risk for southern SC. Low Risk otherwise.
