***** Forecast Notes - 27 August *****

Trajectories are unavailable today... due to problems with the forecast models that generate the data. Trajectories from the known source areas are not expected to impact other growing regions.

FORECAST SUMMARY: Wednesday, August 27:

***** Disease Update - 20 August ***** Strong blue mold is present in southern New England. James LaMondia informs us that blue mold has been confirmed in several areas of the Connecticut River valley in western Massachusetts. Heavy disease is present on shade and broadleaf tobaccos, and active sporulation is occurring. Recent weather has been very favorable for disease development. Growers are using Acrobat MZ to combat the problem. In some cases, fields have been destroyed. The tobacco crop is running later than normal due to the cool, wet weather this year.

***** The Weather..... A frontal system that now lies across upper sections of the mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley regions will remain fairly stationary today, then lift back to the north and east as a warm front on Thursday. Areas of high pressure remain in control north and south of the front. Sunny to partly cloudy skies will dominate. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms along the front, as well as for portions of the southern Appalachian Mountains and the Southeast. Most areas east of the mountains will remain dry. Temperatures will be hot for all areas south of the front.

***** The Forecasts....

Wednesday and Thursday..... mixed conditions for disease development are expected in the Ohio Valley, southern Appalachian Mountains, and western sections of the Southeast. Risk of disease develpment may decrease in the Ohio Valley on Thursday as the front moves away. Favorable weather today for the growing areas of southeast PA, with mixed conditions on Thursday. Unfavorable weather elsewhere both days.

TK

Areas at Strongly Moderate or HIGH Risk during the past week: Southeast, parts of Ohio Valley
