*** Disease Update - 6 May *** Growing areas around Bunn, NC and Henderson, NC (Vance County) have several known outbreaks of blue mold. Infected plants have been transplanted in Granville County. Active blue mold, some of it with heavy sporulation, has been observedin Granville County. These fields are being destroyed. Infected transplants may also have been moved to Warren County, where blue mold has been confirmed, and possibly into Virginia. Growers in all areas are being encouraged to destroy infested fields.
*** Warm, dry weather is expected in the Southeast through the middle of the week *** This is due to strong high pressure both at the surface and in the upper layers of the atmosphere. Conditions are unfavorable for survivable transport of spores and there is little chance of effective deposition. There is Moderate Risk for southeast VA on Tuesday. Otherwise, all commercial tobacco crops are at Low Risk Monday and Tuesday. Dry weather will likely continue through Thursday for most areas of the Southeast.
