***** Disease Update - 6 July ***** Blue mold is spreading in southern New England. James LaMondia informs us that blue mold has been confirmed on field tobacco in Hampden and Hampshire counties in Massachusetts. Disease activity is light, but he cautions that this is early in the season to have blue mold, so the potential for significant loss still exists.
***** Dry weather Saturday through Monday for most areas. Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms for the Southeast. ***** The cold front that dropped south from Canada Thursday and Friday now lies over southern sections of NC and TN. The front will drift slowly south while it dissipates. Daily doses of isolated to scattered showers are expected in the Southeast. Other regions to the north will have dry weather, courtesy of high pressure moving in behind the front. More seasonable temperatures on Saturday will increase again through Sunday and Monday. By Tuesday..... another cold front will surge southward out of Canada. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms for the Northeast, upper mid-Atlantic, and parts of the Ohio Valley and southern Appalachian Mountains on Tuesday. The chance of showers will spread southward on Wednesday as the front moves into the Carolinas and TN Valley.
***** Transport events from the known sources pose little threat to other growing regions Saturday through Monday. There is Moderate Risk for southern GA and northern FL for the next 3 days. Low Risk for all other areas Saturday through Monday. As the next front moves southward on Tuesday and Wednesday.... trajetories will likely be moving to the east and northeast. The weather will be favorable for disease development in the Northeast. Mixed conditions are expected for the mid-Atlantic, Ohio Valley, and southern Appalachian Mountains on Tuesday. On Wednesday, mixed conditions are expected for the Ohio Valley, mid-Atlantic, and regions to the south, while the Northeast begins to dry out.
