*** Disease Update - 29 July *** From KY..... In his latest update, Bill Nesmith indicates that blue mold has become established on a wide and highly broken front in KY. Most extension areas have one or more counties with disease activity. Overall disease levels remain low, but hot spots of activity are occurring in some locations, especially those with recent rainfall and nighttime lows in the 60's. With blue mold now present in many areas in KY and TN, we are dropping the southern GA / northern FL region from the forecasts. We will continue to monitor trajectories from this area and report on any significant events that may affect other regions.
*** Disease Update - 26 July *** From NC..... Terri Scrugs informs us that blue mold has been confirmed in plant beds and a greenhouse in Madison County in the central NC mountains. She rates these outbreaks as non-serious to questionable.
***** The Weather ***** Hot, humid weather is expected for most areas the next two days. A cold front now in the Midwest will move across the northern areas late Monday and Tuesday. Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible near the approaching front and in the sultry air mass to the south. Best chances of afternoon thunderstorms will be in the Southeast, southern mountains, and parts of the Ohio and Tennessee River valleys. Highs in the upper 80's and 90's, lows in the upper 60's and 70's.
***** The Forecast ***** On Monday.... Sunny to partly cloudy skies most areas. Scattered showers are occurring in the Ohio Valley with little shower activity elsewhere. Moderate Risk for north-central TN, Kentucky, southern IN, southern OH, western WV, and southeast PA. Weakly Moderate Risk for the southern Appalachian Mountains. Low Risk elsewhere. On Tuesday.... trajectories from the known sources will be moving to the east. The approaching cold front will bring mixed conditions for transport and deposition. The threat of disease development will be for areas near the known sources. Moderate Risk on Tuesday for southern New England, southeast PA, southside VA, north-central and eastern NC, the southern Appalachian Mountains, north-central TN, and most of KY except for the far northern counties. Low Risk elsewhere.

***** NOTE: These forecasts/outlooks only apply to disease development from airborne transport of spores!!! We do not have the capability to ascertain blue mold development by other means, such as transplanting of infected seedlings, nor will we attempt to do so.
